今回のNAMMショーでもっとも注目が寄せられているのはおそらくこのコルグMS-20Miniでしょう。
オリジナルMS-20が発売されたのは1978年。強力なアナログフィルターとパッチングによる音作りの柔軟性が人気となり、中古市場では今なお10万円以上の値を付ける人気シンセ。その後もプラグインシンセLegacy CollectionやiPadアプリiMS-20 として復活し、現在ではおよそ30万人以上のユーザーがいるといいます。そして今年35周年を迎えるこのMS-20はオリジナルマシンを手がけたエンジニアの手によってハードウェアアナログシンセとして復活!!!
オリジナルMS-20に比べおよそ15%小さなサイズになっているMINI MS-20ですが、主要となるコンポーネントは限りなくオリジナルマシンに近い物が使用され、オリジナルマシンの回路が忠実に再現されているといいます。フィルター部にはおそらくMonotronと同様の物が使用され、若干の修正が加えられていると考えられています。さらにはMIDI In ポートとUSB MIDIポートを装備、本体にはオリジナルのマニュアルとパッチシート、パッチコード10本が付属。
現代のニーズにも十二分に答えることができるであろうMS-20 mini。NAMM2013にて、いよいよお披露目です。
