Arturiaがリリースした「iSEM」は、1974年のオーバーハイム・シンセサイザーモジュール「SEM」をリクリエイトしたiPadシンセ。SEMの大きな特徴であった12dB/Oct のマルチモードフィルターも忠実に再現されており、MoogやArpとはひと味違うまろやかなシンセサウンドを楽しむことが出来る。
本家SEMの基本設計の再現に加え、Arturia ならではの新しい機能も追加。エフェクターはオーバードライブ・ディレイ・コーラスの３種類。Mod Matrixでは8種類のモジュレーションソースを26種類の設定先にアサインすることができ、動きのあるサウンドを作ることができる。Voice Programmerはオーバーハイムの1977年のポリフォニックシンセ「8 -Voice」のアイデアが踏襲されたもので、各ボイスが異なるサウンドを奏でることの出来るマルチティンバー機能。

Arturiaによるソフトウェアシンセ「Oberheim SEM V」も数年前にリリースされているので、このiSEMは初のSEMエミュレートシンセというわけではありません。しかし復刻版SEMがおよそ10万円、SEM Vがおよそ1万円することを考えると、850円のiPadアプリiSEMを試さない理由はないでしょう。「SEM V」と「iSEM」を比べてみると多少の機能の違いはありますが、サウンドクオリティの方はほぼ同じように聞こえるんですよね。
